During May, we invite you to join us in continuing During May, we invite you to join us in continuing Sadako’s mission by folding as many peace cranes as we can. Our goal is to mail the cranes to the Children's Peace Monument as a symbol of hope, resilience, and peace.

At just two years old, Sadako survived the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6th, 1945. She later developed leukemia, known at the time as the "A-bomb disease." While in the hospital, her friend shared a legend: fold 1,000 paper cranes and your wish for healing could come true. Sadako’s efforts to fold cranes sparked a global movement for peace. Today, origami cranes are sent from all over the world to the Children's Peace Monument in Hiroshima to honour her legacy.

Visit the Okanagan Heritage Museum to help us meet our goal! While you’re here, don’t forget to check out the Broken Promises exhibition.

The team from @intermtnent was at the Okanagan Her The team from @intermtnent was at the Okanagan Heritage Museum today to install these *stunning* graphic panels designed by @moozhans_art. The illustrations reference the indigenous plants in the front garden at the OHM and are the final touch on our entry renewal that began last August. In the third photo you can see a single bloom on the western honeysuckle - the colour inspiration for our orange railings. Thanks to the @cityofkelowna and @benchsitedesign for making it all happen 😊

Meet Maria, our Museum Services Coordinator! Mari Meet Maria, our Museum Services Coordinator!

Maria oversees visitor services, memberships, and our wonderful team of volunteers. You might spot her at the front desk of the Okanagan Heritage Museum, warmly welcoming guests, or even leading a tour in Spanish through our galleries.

She enjoys being part of each visitor’s museum experience, hearing their thoughts firsthand, and making meaningful connections. “I love it when kids visit the museum with their families, and they don’t want to leave! Watching them enjoy our exhibits in amazement is one of the best things about my job. Kids are our best ambassadors! One time, I heard a little girl coming in the museum and as soon as she stepped inside, she yelled, ‘Wow! This is my favourite place!’. Made my day.”
