Biodiverse BC: Natural History

Born of a desire to connect directly with the curators, collection managers, scientists and researchers whose work is the bedrock of museums, the Royal BC Museum’s Community Engagement team is hosting a series of natural history discussions across the province. Hear from the Royal BC Museum staff and valued partners as they discuss ongoing research, field work, and the value of collaboration.

Citizen Science, Research and Collections in the Okanagan- Kelowna Session

Please join us for a public presentation by Royal BC Museum staff and invited guests, followed by a community conversation.

Gavin Hanke, Royal BC Museum Curator of Vertebrate Zoology, will talk about “Citizen Science and Museum Research,” and Anna Chinn, Royal BC Museum Collections Manager of Birds and Mammals, will share her experiences in “What’s in the Cabinet? Behind the Scenes in a Natural History Collection.”

This public event is a culmination of two days of community conversations on biodiversity research in the Okanagan, hosted and attended by participants from the Royal BC Museum, Kelowna Museums and Sncewips Heritage Museum, with invited regional science and museum professionals. 

We acknowledge the recent, and in some places ongoing, fires in the Okanagan and across the province. The Biodiverse BC: Natural History series is a forum for community conversations that can help address current environmental conditions and our collective efforts to respond.
