Join military historian Keith A. Boehmer on May 8t Join military historian Keith A. Boehmer on May 8th as we mark the 80th anniversary of VE-Day. This presentation honors Okanagan veterans who, after surviving the war, tragically lost their lives during post-war duties. Through the stories of five men from the Royal Canadian Air Force, Canadian Army, and Royal Navy, discover their service and the circumstances of their deaths. Their names are remembered on local cenotaphs and memorial rolls, ensuring their sacrifice is never forgotten.

Registration is recommended. Visit the link in our profile.

Meet Amanda, our Curatorial Manager! Amanda think Meet Amanda, our Curatorial Manager!

Amanda thinks she has one of the best jobs at the museum – she gets to do all the fun stuff! In her role, she creates exhibitions, works with artifacts, collaborates with community groups, and oversees the Curatorial Team. Sure, there’s some administrative duties too, but she doesn’t let that get her down.

“One of my favourite things about working at the museum is getting to collaborate with community partners. I always learn a lot and have really come to appreciate the different perspectives and talents they bring to a project. I also love that I get to be creative in my role! Kelowna Museums is a great place for learning, exploring, and for being inspired. Come visit us!”

One of Amanda’s biggest challenges so far was to find a new home for the museum’s refrigerated boxcar. “There was graffiti and rust on the outside, and asbestos on the inside. Not an easy sell. But, after months of reaching out to various museums and rail enthusiasts, we finally got a bite! Hallelujah!”

Big thanks again to the Revelstoke Railway Museum for welcoming the boxcar into its collection!
