Meet Solange, our Head of Programming! Exciting Meet Solange, our Head of Programming!

Exciting things happen when education meets fun and creativity! Solange and her team bring museum programs to life, creating engaging experiences for the public – that’s you! Solange also works with community groups and handles programming inquiries, including from teachers and parents.

“I like having the opportunity to educate and work with all ages visiting the museum. I'm interested in developing programs that create an experience for visitors to fall in love with local heritage and history and making them want to come back for more! I'm also grateful to be in a department where we brainstorm, collaborate, think outside the box and be creative.”

Solange knows firsthand that kids say the darndest things. While presenting our Amazing Animals program to a group of first graders, Solange asked if anyone had questions about beavers. One student eagerly raised her hand and said, “My mom drinks a lot of wine!” Thanks for sharing!

Only one week left to come down to the Okanagan He Only one week left to come down to the Okanagan Heritage Museum to make a peace crane in tribute to Sadako’s mission. Our mission is to fold as many peace cranes possible as a symbol of hope, resilience, and peace. At the end of May, we will be mailing our peace cranes to the Children Peace Monument in Hiroshima.

Help us meet our goal of 100 cranes! While you’re here, don’t forget to check out the Broken Promises exhibition.

Watch Erik, our unofficial professional peace crane maker do their magic!

Kelowna’s second annual Queer Zine Fair, hosted Kelowna’s second annual Queer Zine Fair, hosted by Kelowna Museums and the University of British Columbia Okanagan Library at the beautiful Laurel Packinghouse on June 5th, 6:00 – 8:00 PM!

The queer zine fair will showcase and celebrate zines created by 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals or focusing on 2SLGBTQIA+ themes. Queer artists, writers, and creatives can sign up for free to sell, trade, or give away their zines.

Zines have been a powerful underground and DIY force of expression and cultural movement in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community since the ‘70s. Newbies are invited to come learn more!

At 8:15 PM, the fair will be followed by an open mic where attendees or exhibitors will be invited to further share their creativity. Sign up at the event to share spoken word, music, comedy, or read passages from your zines aloud.

Interested in a booth? Apply at forms.gle/uvRavsTnHzSaEpMw5 or email Erik Beardmore at ebeardmore@kelownamuseums.ca.
