Kelowna Museums WWI Lecture Series
Join us at the Okanagan Military Museum for a special lecture series highlighting the events of “The Great War”. Guest speakers will tell tales of WWI history with a focus on the lesser known stories of our region.

Presentation topic: “A Hard Apprenticeship: The 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles (B.C. Horse) learn how to fight in 1916”

Professor Howard Hisdal is the Chair of the History Department at Okanagan College and is a retired Captain of both the regular and reserve of the Canadian Army, including the British Columbia Dragoons of Kelowna. His presentation will take a critical look at the battles of Mount Sorrel, Somme, and Flers Courcelette with an emphasis on how the regiment performed and what it learned. The entire Canadian Expeditionary Force learned many bitter lessons in 1916 which would be put to good effect in 1917 at Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele.
