The Okanagan Rainbow Coalition asked Mayor Walter The Okanagan Rainbow Coalition asked Mayor Walter Gray to read a proclamation declaring Kelowna Pride Day in 1997. He refused, saying he was representing his constituency, and found himself before the BC Human Rights Tribunal. In 2005, Mayor Sharon Shepard read the first proclamation. Gray supported Pride Day when he was re-elected in 2012.
