Position Title:                      EDUCATION ASSISTANT – 25-35 Hours/wk (permanent)

Location:                                  470 Queensway Avenue

Reports to:                             Education and Programming Coordinator

 

Position Summary: Working closely with the Education Coordinator, the Education Assistant will lead curriculum-based programs to a variety of groups, both in the museum and in outreach settings. The programs have a strong focus on interpretation, hands-on learning, storytelling, and fun. The Education Assistant will actively engage audiences, encouraging discovery and life-long museum lovers. They will excel in positive classroom management strategies, and have strong presentation and interpretation skills.

Main Duties:  

  • Deliver education and public programming to museum audiences both on site and off site, including weekend programs as well as spring and summer break programs; some evening work may be required.
  • Preparing education and program materials, i.e., craft and activity supplies, snacks;
  • Engage children (and adults) with dynamic and interactive storytelling;
  • Ensure participants receive a fun, informative and safe experience;
  • Have fun and create lifelong museum fans (Hopefully!)
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • 2 years’ experience in the delivery of formal and informal education and public programs and services
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in a classroom settings from preschool to adult
  • Able to load and unload teaching equipment and resource material up to 45 pounds
  • Must be reliable and able to be at assigned locations on time to meet classes
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Satisfactory criminal record check

Pay Range:            

  • Level 3 ($17.51 per hour)
