Photography Conservation 101

July 23, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$10
Kelowna Museums - Photo Conservation 101 workshop

Location: Okanagan Heritage Museum – Ursula Surtees Regional Conservation Lab

Time: 1st session – 2pm-4pm / 2nd session – 6pm-8pm
A picture is worth a thousand words; our photos contains stories and memories of moments captured in time. Did you know that you can use some of the same methods we use at the museum to preserve your own photographs? In this hands on workshop you will learn basic conservation techniques to preserve and protect your precious family photos.
This two hour workshop will cover:

  • A brief history of photography and how to identify common types of photographs.
  • Care and handling
  • Storage and archival materials
  • Conservation of images: cleaning, tear repair, unrolling

Don’t just learn, participate! Bring a photograph that is special to you that you would like preserved (or a photo that is torn/in poor condition) for the hands on activity.

There are 2 sessions available for this workshop: 1st session – 2pm-4pm | 2nd session – 6pm-8pm

Workshops will take place in the Ursula Surtees Conservation lab, a state-of-the-art Conservation Laboratory which is located on the ground floor of the Okanagan Heritage Museum. The Ursula Surtees lab offers a variety of conservation services to the public.

Participants must register by July 20th, 2015

A small fee will be charged for supplies: $10/person
